What is the world’s hardest problem to solve? According to New Scientist, who hired us to create their cover illustration, the world’s hardest problem is “P=NP”. Our concept was to illustrate a fantasy ancient scene where this almighty equation was first created.

THE WORLD’S HARDEST PROBLEM

According to Wikipedia, the P versus NP problem is a major unsolved problem in computer science. Informally, it asks whether every problem whose solution can be quickly verified by a computer can also be quickly solved by a computer. It was introduced in 1971 by Stephen Cook in his seminal paper “The complexity of theorem proving procedures” and is considered by many to be the most important open problem in the field. It is one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems selected by the Clay Mathematics Institute to carry a US$1,000,000 prize for the first correct solution.

Jeff Huang - Paul McCartney and Foo Fighters

Huang worked on 2 pieces for this series. The first piece features Beetles legend, Paul McCartney who is considered by many to be the father of the rock/pop genre of music. This piece has an organic feel to it, the vines that grow from McCartney are meant to symbolize the growth of the genre that originated from his work.

The Foo Fighters piece stands in contrast to the McCartney piece and is a bit more consistent with other pieces in this series. It features members of the band in different states of disintegration and includes lots of shattered glass and shards.

I met Calvin Hollywood a few years back when he came from Germany to NY for a event. He is an awesome photographer. He now has over 50,000 likes on his Facebook page, and is well respected in the Photography community there! I'm happy to say that I will be doing many more collaborations with Calvin in the future. I wanted to create a image with a post-apocalyptic theme, so I approached Calvin with a moodboard to see if he had any photos of models that I could use. Below is the outcome
